New Probing Finds

More probing around the cemetery has yielded more goodies. A piece of footstone with the initials "M L W" has been uncovered near a pine tree.

A root from the pine had grown into a small crack in the stone and, as it got bigger, it eventually broke the stone in half. The root was removed and the lower half of the footstone was excavated. We will use a stone epoxy and put the footstone back together and replace it where we found it. We will also remove the pine tree to prevent any further damage to the surrounding stones.

We also found and excavated another stone. At first we thought this was a footstone. It was found in line and about 20 feet from the "M L W" footstone. As it turns out, this is the lower half of a headstone.

The inscription that we can read on the stone reads ........."learned to love him, God took him home to Heaven."

This is the grave of Marcellus Coletrane, who according to the information we have, died at the age of 15 months 7 days.

Further probing has yielded no sign of the top half of this headstone. When/if it is found it will be repaired and replaced.
