Vandalism At The Cemetery

A few weeks ago, the Old Presbyterian Cemetery had the misfortune of having some vandals visit the cemetery.

We were lucky. Only one stone was damaged.

The sad part was this stone had already been repaired and reset during the preservation project.

Once the base was stood back up and leveled, we cleaned the break to insure there were no contanimants to prevent the epoxy from adhearing the two pieces of stone together.

The stone was then epoxied and securely clamped for drying.

After the epoxy dried, the stone was unclamped and was readied to be in filled.

Here, Glenn is shown in filling the void in the stone with a historic pointing mortar.

The void is in filled to prevent moisture and water from entering the repair site.

Glenn is in filling the front of the stone here.

The front presents a little more of a challenge with the in fill due to the carvings in the stone.

Though this is not one of them, some stones have very intricate carvings on them and can make in fill a very time consuming and pains taking
process.

Glenn has the patience for it.

The repair is complete.
